I groomed a Derby horse in 1984 named Swale and he won the race, too. And then years later I learned how to write prose through a book I stayed with called “Track Conditions” which was published in 1993, I think. Sometimes Swale comes back in poems. Here he is today, in a poem posted at the Oxford American website and published in their current issue.
