It’s Not Too Late to Register for the CWC&R!

As promised, the 2020 Clockhouse Writers’ Conference & Retreat will be underway on Wednesday, July 1 – and it’s not too late to register!  Given that we’ll be gathering remotely, without travel considerations, we’re hoping to see those who haven’t been able to make it to Vermont these past few years, and to meet those who haven’t yet checked out what the CWC&R is all about.  West Coast fellow alumni, please do consider joining us!

Here’s some of what awaits to bring us together, to keep us writing, to acknowledge that we’re all—as the blog states – Writers in the World, a world which is now facing many challenges:

  • A Plenary Panel presentation and discussion.  This year’s theme, chosen during last year’s CWC&R, is Vision.
  • Stations of the Word:   Sam Sherman will lead you through a series of timed writing prompts to start the week with writing.
  • Works in Progress, Impromptu (writing prompts), and evening readings of our work.
  • Workshops:  “Punctuating Poetry: More than your Momma’s Comma” with Shae Savoy; “Alone Together:  Music and the Writer” with Julie Parent; “Process Mixer with Ars Poetica Hors d’oeuvres” with Laurel Radzieski; and “In Echo of the Plague-Era  Decameron” with Kathryn Cullen-DuPont.
  • A conversation moderated by Lead Steward Lucy Turner, with the goal of generating a CWC statement against police brutality and other forms of racial injustice.
  • Communal Meals:  Zoom room open for all mealtimes, for those who wish to gather for conversation.
  • Visiting Writer:   Micheline Aharonian Marcom, the author of seven novels, including a trilogy of books about the Armenian genocide and its aftermath in the 20th century.
  • Visiting Professional: Ibrahim Ahmad, who is the editorial director at Akashic Books, where he has worked in various capacities since 2000.
  • Playwright Enrichment Fund Guest: Eric Rosen, who was Artistic Director of Kansas City Repertory Theatre (2008- 18), and was previously the co-founder and Artistic Director of Chicago’s About Face Theatre (1995-2008).
  • Maple Creamies!  Yes, really.  We have a plan.  And a new story-telling game that will work beautifully in our remote circumstances.
