The Writer in the World is a collaborative site for the members of the Goddard MFA in Creative Writing community – faculty, alumni and students – to share their news and their thoughts. Here, you can hear about our publications, awards, productions, retreats, conferences, teaching experiences, accomplishments…everything we are doing in the world. It’s also a place for our thoughts on writing, and a place to find each other, and share opportunities and ideas. The essays you will find on this website are the property and responsibility of the individual authors: their own opinions and creative work. Copyrights and permissions to publish reside with them individually, so please contact them directly for use.

WHO we are: You can read about our awesome faculty under the “Faculty” section of our menu, including their bios, some interviews, and their news. And our alumni and students are doing amazing things, which you can find all over this blog.  Hear their voices.  Check out some of our alumni publications under the “Our Students and Alumni” link where we brag about the Goddard theses that have been published, and the news and successes that happen nearly every day!

The Goddard MFAW: This community grows out of the Goddard College MFA program in Creative Writing: the first low residency MFAW, and still the best. Twice a year, we gather on one of two campuses – in Plainfield, Vermont or Port Townsend, Washington – for workshops, lectures, readings, visiting writers, small group study and one-on-one meetings to discuss your own work and your future. The MFA in Creative Writing is one of thirteen low residency programs that are rooted in Goddard College’s progressive, student-centered learning model; each program is distinct and each has its own separate pedagogy and approach.
